Problem Description
When using a key fob at the front entrance: - The indicator light turns green - The lock clicks audibly - However, the door does not release or open
Root Cause
The issue is typically caused by improperly installed panic bar pushbars that are overtightened, preventing the door latch from retracting properly.
Resolution Steps
1. Inspect the Panic Bar Assembly
- Check if the pushbar screws are too tight
- Look for signs of stress on the latch mechanism
2. Adjust the Pushbar Installation
- Loosen the pushbar screws that are causing excessive pressure
- Ensure the latch can move freely without obstruction
3. Reassemble the Unit
- Re-assemble the panic bar components properly
- Apply proper torque to screws - avoid overtightening
4. Test the System
- Scan a key fob to verify the electronic system responds
- Confirm the door physically opens when the latch retracts
- Test multiple times to ensure consistent operation
Important Notes
- The electronic access control system may function correctly (green light, click sound) even when the mechanical door release fails
- Proper installation torque is critical to prevent binding of the latch mechanism
- This issue can develop over time due to regular usage stress on overtightened components
